"Finding a sustainable balance between protecting our environment and expanding our activity"
Philippe Gas, C.E.O. of EuroDisney
When it comes to our children, what is more essential than being attentive about the quality of what we relay to them?
Magic of course… that’s our job and yet, it is also our need to protect the environment.
Reacting intelligently, in terms of water and energy consumption, choosing organic goods whenever possible, preserving our biodiversity… So many objectives that cannot be accomplished by the simple wave of a magic wand, but thanks to the reflective concrete efforts and investments made.
Magic Proves Itself
- 1997: Energy conservation program put in place
- 2008: “Green Standard” launched (Worldwide Disney program developing conservation awareness in the work environment).
- Today: 1/3 of the pool cars are electric and 15% of our electricity is provided by renewable energies.
- 25 types of waste are sorted & 39% of our daily waste is recycled
- 32 000 Disney articles are recuperated
- 400 000 flowers are planted per year, 15 species of trees are safeguarded
- 60 types of insects, 15 types of butterflies and 10 types of fish are protected
- Tomorrow: Study on the construction of a used water treatment plant
Because excellence has no price…
- “Energy Trophies”: Every year the Disneyland Paris teams who have made the most efforts to leave the smallest carbon print are compensated.
- “Award for Excellence”: Recognizes responsible urban planning and the quality of life. In 2008, “Val d’Europe”, the result of a successful public/private partnership, receives this prestigious prize awarded by the Urban Land Institute.
Our contribution to environment protection is reflected : in our transportation means (public transportation accessible, on-site free shuttles for our staff and our guests, eco-friendly buses, carpooling system for our staff…), in our hotels (more economic water and electrical systems, movement sensitive detectors for light and water conservation…), in our restaurants (recycling wrappings, oils…), in our boutiques (replacing plastic bags with “eco-bags”…) and naturally, throughout the entire resort (water analysis, limiting noise pollution, preservation of various species…).
Now, more than ever, it’s the job of each and every one of us, who by learning to limit our day-to-day impact in our work environment, will be the guardians of this major investment.
